Politicians will never be cool, but…

We’re only a couple of weeks out from a general election, which means we’re hearing a lot more from our politicians than we usually do.

The traditional debates are still attracting an audience and the papers are doing their thing…

But this is the first UK election where the coverage has been given life on TikTok.

Anyone who’s come across Sir Ed Davey’s antics, be it heading down a waterslide, taking a splash on an obstacle course, or attempting to bake in a primary school, will know what I’m on about.

That and all of the parties taking jabs at each other through light-hearted video content have made it fertile new ground to reach younger audiences.

Now, the caveat here is that unlike in a general election, you’re probably not trying to reach every single demographic, age bracket or region in the UK with everything you do.

But it’s a great example of the value of video and being in control of your own narrative.

Video content is more varied than it’s ever been, more accessible than it’s ever been, and more widely consumed than it’s ever been.

All of which means that wherever your audience is, you can reach them with impactful, powerful, and punchy content.

By identifying your market, you can shape the content you produce around ensuring you reach them with the right message, meaning that the content you produce has real purpose.

Producing content for socials doesn’t just have to be for socials, either.

Whenever I’m producing video content with a client, the focus is always on how content can be repurposed, meaning that it’s good to go on email, LinkedIn, Instagram, and wherever you’re looking to build or reach an audience.
